Blog 11- Finalising colour scheme

Week 9 has been busy! We have been working on a new colour scheme. I loved the colour scheme from last week, pastel pinks and blues, but I just don’t think the client was taking into consideration the rest of their house and how much their family home will change over the years. They loved the colours from last week but I did suggest some new colour schemes to them. This time round, the colours were a bit more rich. The main aspect of design that they wanted to keep was the Terrazzo stone worktop, which I am not complaining about because I love it. So as long as I kept the worktop, I could play with everything round about that. I decided to use a more mature colour palette. I would say there is still that aspect of pastel shades in it, but just that they are more adaptable to colour changes over the years. It’s a lot of money to be investing into a property, therefore you want your client to get full use out of it for years to come.

In terms of the layout, we are pretty much still going with one of the two layouts we had planned early on (35m2 and 60m2). The main thing we wanted to get our head round was the actual colours we were going to use, as I believe that does have an effect on the layout of the extension. As I am not used to using this colour palette a lot, this is definitely the stage that I want to get just right before moving on. Once we are happy with the décor, we will choose one of the two layouts and weigh up the costs. I feel like this blog is very similar to last week, but I will keep drafting mood boards to the client until they are happy with the perfect design.

New colour scheme.

Another part of the extension that I really wanted to get right this week, was adding more storage solutions into the smaller extension, as this was the thing stopping the client from going with the smaller plans. I have managed to add more cabinets into the the kitchen, as you can see in the first image. Also, in the sixth image, you can see floor to ceiling cabinets in the TV area. Here, there will be the hidden desk that the client asked for and most importantly, storage for all their bits and bobs. In terms of my learning experience this week, it has become clear that the planning stage can be like a roller-coaster, sometimes you feel like you can be back to square one or that the project can be running quite slow. However, I do not take this to heart and I am now going progress into the next part of the planning stage- a Sketchup model. As I said in the last project, a Sketchup model is great to see a design in 3D form. I might create some of the architectural collages again, as I thought they helped us to envisage colours and materials in the right environment.
